Last day of the season football
|
England’s top division has had its share of exciting finishes – Arsenal and Liverpool in 89 and Man City in 2011 spring immediately to mind. City and Liverpool in 2019 are a worthy addition, led by arguably the world’s top two coaches – the ebullient effervescence of Jurgen Klopp and the measured pressure of Pep Guardiola.
Overall, it’s been a reasonably decent nine months for us. Not a vomit-inducing rollercoaster or bowel-crushing flirtation with the drop, but not always plain sailing either. Mid-table is about right, although had some decisions gone our way and had commitment been more consistent we may well have ended the season wearing oxygen masks. An acceptable start to the Pellegrini era, with – hopefully – much to look forward to in the coming months. Such as the cricket world cup.
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION vs MANCHESTER CITY One of two games of genuine consequence. Brighton are safe – at last – and City just have to win to regain the title. Easy, innit? Away win.
BURNLEY vs ARSENAL Of consequence for Arsenal, who will battle for fourth. Away win.
CRYSTAL PALACE vs BOURNEMOUTH Of little consequence to anyone – apart from us if we lose and Palace win. Draw.
FULHAM vs NEWCASTLE UNITED An opportunity to blood the youngsters. Draw.
LEICESTER CITY vs CHELSEA Third place is Chelsea’s to lose. So they’d better win. Brendan Rogers will have other thoughts, however. Draw.
LIVERPOOL vs WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS The other game of genuine consequence. Wolves will finish in seventh, whatever happens today. Anfield will be loud at kick-off. Perhaps less so at the full-time whistle. Home win.
MANCHESTER UNITED vs CARDIFF CITY Ole, Ole, Ole, it will be an important summer for you. Home win.
SOUTHAMPTON vs HUDDERSFIELD TOWN They’re safe. They’ve got a decent manager who will target a top half finish next season. They’re playing the bottom team. Goals! Emphatic home win.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR vs EVERTON It’s a bit of a come down after their midweek (what’s an appropriate synonym for ‘heroics’?) accomplishment in Amsterdam. But still plenty to play for this afternoon. Home win.
WATFORD vs WEST HAM UNITED We’re in 11th spot. The highest we can finish is ninth, the lowest is 12th. Not that dissimilar to Watford. What team will Pellegrini pick? Draw.

Cheers Coffee,
Fully expect man city to be 3 up after 15 mins and teams playing with one eye on the beach, which makes my final day accas almost impossible.
Glasgow derby first up with league already won, but should still be a few fireworks and a high count of cards.
Next season, all about who we can keep and sign.

One of the weekends of the season when it's worth putting up with that jug eared cunt Lineacre to watch motd.
It's just as well for L'pool fans that they have something to look forward to as they have no chance of Brighton doing them a favour. I'm tempted to say they will be on the beach, but they always are anyway.
As for our game, toss a coin.

Cheers coffee, Not sure I would class Klopp as in the top two coaches in the world. He could continue to be a failure, the nearly man and win fuck all again this year.. then again he might not, but he’s not there yet.

JLAP - Disagree. Two champions league finals on the spin, gonna end up on 97 points in the PL, and all while playing entertaining attacking football. Comfortably one of the worlds top coaches.

Great stuff Coffee, Fingers crossed we'll finish our season with three on the bounce. Had we not lost our first four and had half reasonable refs things would have been different. Can't see man city nausing it up today but stranger things have happened. Gonna swerve any football bets today.

Frankly I'm just hoping we can start next season better than this one.
That was a tough few weeks.

Cheers Coffee, though you're "on the beach" yourself with the lack of usual wordsmithery.
That said, I think your predictions may all come true.
PS: I know nothing.

I had £1.44p left in my paddy power account, that acca will give me a handsome £1348.64p return. Or an empty paddy Power account.

I can’t see Leicester losing and I can see Palace winning.
So it’s 10th at best or 12th at worst. 12th would be a kick in the nuts.

Top work this season! I always think your reasoning is spot on, but the same cannot be said for your predictions! You can finish on a high today! Have a good summer.

Yeah with some earlier disagreements below, it's hard to knock what klopp has done at liverpool, in the seasons after Suarez left and with coutinho also pissing off.
Seems to have spent well and his two jobs may not have been trophy laden, but impossible competing with Bayern when he was in Germany and impressive going toe to toe with man city and their riches this season.
2 cl finals not to be sniffed at either.
Like him or not, he inspires and knows his onions.

I hope Liverpool get a massive win, say 8-0, in a game with very little injury time.
And ManC score in the 99th minute to win 1-0.

Have a horrible feeling Man City will drop points today.
That would cap off a fucking atrocious week for football.

We need to win today and hopefully finish 9th. If we lose we will finish below Watford, Leicester, Wolves and probably fucking Crystal Palace, again which is unacceptable!

JLAP, Manuel & Sven
Re Guardiola v Klopp v Mourinho v Ancelotti
If you were the owner of a top European club and looking to appoint a new manager, would you take Mourinho or Ancelotti over Pep or Klopp? Yes, the former have their records - and very impressive they are too - but the latter are performing big time now.

Football is like a woman. You can employ the best reason to predict what should happen, but what actually happens is anyone's guess.

Thanks for all the support!

Have you considered posting that on a Liverpool site? It would be interesting to read the responses you get.
